If you’re a high school Junior or Senior, you can apply for the Youth Apprenticeship Program and begin gaining work experience while completing your high school diploma. Students spend part of the school day in the workforce learning on the job with their mentor.
As part of the Youth Apprenticeship Program, you will earn weighted high school credits, receive an hourly wage, and gain marketable industry skills. After completing 450+ hours of on-the-job training before graduation, you can earn a State Skill Certification from the Maryland Department of Labor.

TIPS
Application Tips
Your application packet is the first impression you will make with your prospective employers. Put your best foot forward with a few tips:
Fill out the application clearly. Digitally fill out your application. If handwritten, ensure clear and legible writing.
Draft a written cover letter articulating your interest in your chosen field and the company you are applying to.
Write a unique cover letter for each application you submit.
Update your application with the most up-to-date information and include your coursework and vocational experience.
Proofread your submission. Ensure that your resume, application, and cover letter are free of spelling, mechanical, or formatting errors.
Ask for teacher recommendations. Teachers take pride in completing student recommendation forms, especially those who demonstrate character, produce quality products, and demonstrate an exemplary work ethic. Politely ask for a recommendation, and make sure you thank your teacher for their help!
Selection Process Tips
For many, the youth apprenticeship is their first workforce experience. Consider the following steps to make your submission shine and give yourself the best chance of acceptance:
Keep your contact information up-to-date
Regularly monitor your email, calls, and voicemails.
Respond to employers promptly.
Dress professionally and groom well for interviews, whether they're in-person or virtual.
Get ready for interviews by practicing with mock questions. Think about key points you want to highlight about yourself and ask questions during the interview.
Commit to the process, from application through completion of your 450+ hours! Remember, businesses are investing in you, so give them your best in return.
